Tovah Kasdin, J.D.
Domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse prevention specialist
I help organizations align actions with vision by creating and implementing impactful prevention programs, trainings, policies, and community awareness events that promote the values of anti-violence, anti-oppression, power sharing, safety and respect for people of all identities.
Brand reputation is built on healthy relationships by preventing domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and other forms of oppression. Change in this direction requires both executive leadership and grass-roots support, but many organizations don’t know where to begin. They might want to be at the forefront of change, but may lack the vision, expertise, and intersectional lens to guide their stakeholders and partners toward success.
During a 20+ year career as a domestic violence expert (former domestic violence prosecutor, current nonprofit leader, and consultant), I have created innovative solutions and improved systems to prevent abuse and better protect domestic violence survivors worldwide. Above all, I am skilled at forging partnerships, leading coalitions, and mobilizing high performing teams in the public, private and nonprofit sectors.
For the past 12 years, I have advised the Domestic Abuse Prevention Program (DAPP) at the World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund and the Inter-American Development Bank on programs and policies that prevent domestic abuse and improve the health and safety of staff, spouses, and families from multicultural backgrounds in the U.S. and worldwide. My consulting includes creating cross-functional programs to improve prevention and intervention efforts to enhance survivor safety, engage men to inspire models of positive masculinity, and strengthen organizational commitment to reducing violence.
In 2014, I launched the ElderSAFE Center, a state-of-the-art healthcare-based shelter for older adults experiencing abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. As the program’s first director, I have grown the regional shelter program into a nationally recognized and award-winning elder abuse prevention center, providing innovative education and advocacy to strengthen systems to support older adult survivors of domestic violence, family violence, sexual assault, and elder abuse.
I have designed training curricula and educated more than 25,000 professionals and community members during my career, with a focus on the intersection of diversity, equity, and inclusion. I have developed, promoted, and delivered accredited in-person and web-based trainings on issues impacting women and diverse communities for the National Domestic Violence Hotline, Futures Without Violence and NO MORE.
I am passionate about transforming ideas into action by building model programs that align an organization’s mission and values with its desired outcomes. I look forward to working with your organization to realize your goals of creating safer and healthier communities.
